The 3-Month-Challenge
Going on 3 months mow, I have been travelling into Bavaria (or being more specific: to “München” / Munich).
Shortly after we moved into this appartment, my company decided that it was a good idea to send me tumbling all through the Republic of Germany to my next customer. Currently the host for that very customer has been on the news all over Germany for making huge losses in speculating and buying worthless/bancrupt assets in the Alps region.
Nonetheless they apparently have achieved a plus on their cash flow, so they were able to order additional personnel (us) to fill up the ranks of their IT staff. Although I cannot really clearly determine the workload, to me it seems that there is potential for improvement in their own system….but I am still glad I had the opportunity to go back to work, therefore I’ll hush on that subject.
What really proves a challenge to me is that since that customer is so far away, I am gone from home all week. That means:
- I miss my family (wife and kids) and am really lonely there
- I do not get even started on fixing the house to suit my family’s and my onw needs and plans
- I get nothing but the absolute minimum done at home (weekend shopping, trying to thaw the realtionship with my wife and kids before the next weekday-trip)
- I plan my weekends as if there’re 5 days in them, failing to achieve any of that
- Christmas preparation this year were harsh, my wife has no car, so I was the “shop boy” for most of the deal
I really look forward to end this engagement, not because I hate the job or people I work with, but because it’s so fuggin’ far away from home. My company is informed and tells me about a plan to remove/exchange me as soon as possible from this customer, time will tell …
The customer, or actually the employees I work with, have plans to extend my working there for a while longer (that’s what they said), I hope they won’t be too dissapointed if I leave before that.
(to be continued)
